Artist statement

The world has never lacked beauty. What it lacks is our attention. For Giulia Aim, art begins with a simple act: staying with something long enough for it to reveal itself. As a child, she dreamed of becoming a scientist. What fascinated her was experimentation, the possibility that curiosity alone could transform ordinary things into unexpected discoveries. Looking back, she never stopped doing that. Art simply became her laboratory. Working across painting, sculpture, installation, and mixed media, Giulia explores the hidden narratives embedded within everyday objects, images, and organic forms. Whatever captures her curiosity can become the beginning of an investigation. Whether it starts with a discarded object, a broken mirror, a human gesture, or the interior of a fruit, her practice transforms the familiar into something unexpectedly symbolic, inviting viewers to question the way they experience the world. She is not interested in extraordinary subjects. She is interested in revealing how extraordinary ordinary things already are. The closer she looks, the more they unfold into worlds of meaning that often go unnoticed. Colour lies at the heart of her practice. It is not decoration; it is her language. Every palette carries its own rhythm, emotional atmosphere, and energy, shaping the way each work comes to life. Reality already contains infinite richness. Colour is how she invites people to taste it with their eyes. Experimentation remains the foundation of her practice. Materials, scales, and disciplines shift continuously, from painting to sculpture, collage, found objects, and installation, but the underlying investigation remains constant: how perception transforms meaning, and how attention can completely redefine the value of what we think we already know. Her recent body of work, Slices of Life - The Time of Nature, extends this investigation through enlarged fruits and vegetables that become portals into living architectures suspended between science, symbolism, and imagination. Rather than painting food, she uses it to explore perception, nourishment, memory, and our relationship with the living world. Giulia Aim does not believe art exists to provide answers. She believes it exists to make us pause, to question, to wonder, and to rediscover what we have stopped noticing. Because sometimes, changing the way we perceive the world is enough to change the way we live within it.
